Buburi Community Committee

In 2010, when Friends of Buburi gained charitable status, the trustees knew incorporating local governance was vital to the success and future sustainability of the clinic. It was decided to form the Buburi Community Committee to provide in-country support for the UK trustees as well as day-to-day support for the clinic and its staff.

The Committee consists of ten elected members of the community. Committee Chairman Paul Musungo and Deputy Chairman Wenslaus Ochara are Assistant Chiefs for the communities of Buburi and Bukiri, so are well respected and well placed to understand the needs of their communities. They, like all the members of the Committee, are passionate about the future of the clinic and the health of their communities.

The Committee meet on a regular basis to ensure they provide the necessary support to the clinic and deal with any problems that arise promptly. They also work closely with the UK trustees with a view to take on greater financial and managerial control of the clinic.
