Inspiring Nurse Volunteers

15th August 2017

Friends of Buburi trustees, Jo Hanks and Jackie Hamer, were both delighted and honoured to be invited to give a talk to the students on the Professional Diploma in Tropical Nursing (DTN) at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine by course director, Dame Claire Bertschinger who is also the Patron of the charity.  All four nurse Friends of Buburi Trustees have undertaken this world renowned Diploma, which helps prepare nurses and midwives with the knowledge and understanding needed to work in tropical and resource poor areas.

Jo and Jackie talked about their work with Friends of Buburi, the development of Buburi clinic and the progress and challenges that they have experienced on the way. They were joined by Aoife Cahill, also DTN trained and a nurse specialising in infection control, who has visited Buburi Clinic twice. Aoife gave the students an excellent and entertaining insight into the opportunities that she had experienced observing primary health care in Buburi and has hopefully inspired others to consider volunteering too.
