Today Friends of Buburi is celebrating World Humanitarian Day. This is a day held every year on the 19th August to celebrate the spirit that inspires humanitarian work around the world.
Buburi Community Health Clinic owes its very existence to so many people across the world who have shared a vision and belief, people who have dedicated their time, energy, skills and funds to help others less fortunate than themselves…… THANK YOU EVERYONE for helping this vulnerable community in this shared response.
This year’s theme is “One Humanity”. UBUNTU is an old South African philosophy and literally translated means humanity and kindness towards others. There is a belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity, recognition that we all need others and without others none of us would be here today. We are bound together in ways that are invisible to the eye. There is a oneness in humanity that we achieve ourselves by sharing ourselves with others and caring for those around us.
Today is also designed to rally support for those who find themselves affected by crisis around the world such as those who are unfortunate enough to be trapped in poverty and unable to afford the basics for life such as sufficient food, water, shelter and essential medicine. We believe there is an urgent need to realise a greater sense of responsibility and develop a sense of global community. We want to show how we can all stand in solidarity together against conflict, torture, disease, famine, poverty and suffering.
Today is an opportunity to get involved and do something to help those who need it most.
