International Day of the Charity

2nd September 2020

On Saturday 5th September, it’s International Day of the Charity & you may wonder what’s it all about. Well, it was started to encourage people around the world to help others by volunteering and doing charitable activities.

So how can you get involved? There are a number of ways, no matter how much time or money you may have to spare. You can donate funds to a chosen charity and know you helped them to achieve their goals. For example, giving £10 to Friends of Buburi would buy 66 reuseable sanitary pads made in Kenya, and they would be given to girls.

You can volunteer your time or services. Find something that you love to do that would also be rewarding. For example, you could make some reuseable pads for us that we’ll take to Kenya and give to girls.

You can attend a charity event, or organise your own to raise money, whilst maintaining social distancing of course! For example, you could organise a cake sale or sponsored charity run or cycle with friends and donate your proceeds.

The date of the 5th September was chosen to commemorate the death of Mother Theresa but you certainly don’t have to be as committed as she was to make a difference and feel good about what you have done.
